Interview with Moderator Stratege about the Mission Editor

The mission editor has come to such a state of completeness that we have made it available for moderators to test functionality. With the mission editor comes the opportunity to think up and try out your own scenarios and if they are good enough, to let them become a part of the Dreamlords experience.

We have asked Stratege, one of the moderators, how he feels about the new Mission Editor:

What do you think about the mission editor?

Stratege: It's a quite powerful tool which allows a deep insight into the game.

What kind of levels do you want to make with it?

Stratege: Up till now I just did the usual kinds of missions, simple grinding missions, some with a few added things which are also a bit harder than the normal missions.
Currently I am working on getting a completely new kind of mission done: one which can only described with the word "random", mobs spawning and despawning, debuffs and buffs appearing and disappearing, heals, damage, special stuff all flying over the place and some pretty good rewards at the end. (I got it all planned out and almost everything tested, all I'm waiting for is the correct map for it)

What has been hardest to learn when using the editor?

Stratege: Hmm there were a few hard things, the hardest was probably finding a way to bring some randomness into the maps and create if-checks. The most time taking part was finding out which mob groups work and which don't and what effects the items give (luckily Moderator Kinimaro is testing the auras so i don't have to do that)

What kind of impact do you think that user made missions can do for a MMO?

Stratege: If done properly they can have a huge impact, because many users have great and unusual ideas and if the users create the new missions the Devs can focus on other things, like balancing the game or fixing bugs or creating new content (example: more unit skills/unit types).

Thanks for your time!

Stratege: It was a pleasure to answer the interview

Coop PvE progress report

Coop PvE is progressing even if it has a long way to go still. Coop PvE will let you team up with a friend to have a go against the Nightmares of Elysion together. Always wanted to see how a Covenant and Thûl army could work together? This will be your chance. I have asked some questions to the man that will make it all possible, Mr. Daniel Romberg:

How is development going?

Daniel: It's moving along nicely. The first milestone, replacing the old team system with something that makes coop possible, is now mostly completed (though it will need lots of testing) and I've started working on the actual coop PvE system.

What are the major challenges when programming Coop for Dreamlords?

Daniel: The team system was the major challenge since the way teams work affects several other systems. Testing for things that have broken by replacing it probably won't be pretty either.

Have you bumped into anything funny while digging through the code?

Daniel: Kind of makes me sound like a broken record but the old team system itself is both funny and tragic in a "what were we thinking" sort of way.

Thanks for the time Mr.Romberg!
